DTN Weather Safety Center Adds Free Internet Option for Access to Remote And Emergency Weather Information

Public emergency management and safety offices now have options from the best of both worlds regarding access to weather warnings and current weather conditions.  Subscribers to DTN Weather Safety Center, a service of Data Transmission Network Corporation's Weather division, can now receive a free online connection for remote or emergency access to weather information in addition to their stand-alone satellite system.  This enhanced option assures continuous access to weather information regardless of conditions that could cause reception problems.

DTN Online Weather provides the same maps, forecasts and warnings as the satellite delivered DTN Weather Safety Center product which was designed for public service companies or anyone responsible for protecting lives and property from hazardous weather.  "Many subscribers appreciate the redundancy of having both a Ku band satellite weather system along with an Internet back-up system," says Don Wilmes, Sales Director.  "Having both systems allow for continuous access in the event of rain fade at the dish location or Internet delays due to phone line outages, etc."

Wilmes added that although subscribers prefer the reliability, speed and reception of the satellite Safety Center service, the addition of an online service adds the benefit of access from remote locations on a part-time or temporary basis.

With a paid subscription to DTN Weather Safety Center at $86/mo., the DTN Online option is provided at no additional cost using the subscriber's Internet service provider and special access codes.  By itself, the online weather service costs $50 per month.

To meet the growing need for comprehensive news, weather and market information, Data Transmission Network Corporation (Nasdaq: DTLN), based in Omaha, Neb., delivers customized content to more than 165,000 subscribers primarily in the US and Canada.  DTN serves subscribers with interest in four
primary segments: agriculture, weather, energy, and financial services.  DTN delivers information, including real-time stock and commodity quotes and weather, using a variety of technologies including the Internet, satellite, cable and FM side band.
